It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Encinitas is the quintessential California surf town. It’s a famously laid back beach community that puts you into a relaxed mood as soon as you enter it. As such, it’s a must-visit destination for any California tourist.

What is there to do in Encinitas?

Encinitas is a seaside town that’s nestled along the scenic Coast Highway 101 in the northern part of San Diego County. It’s located about 15 miles south of the Orange County border and 26 miles north of San Diego. Due to its warm and sunny climate, Encinitas is a great destination all year round.

Here are 6 things you can do in Encinitas during the coronavirus epidemic:

1. Beaches

The gorgeous Moonlight Beach is fully open to visitors, with the beach stairways located at D Street, Grandview, Beacons, Stonesteps, and Swami D’s being open. The only exception are the fire pits, which are still closed.

Keep in mind that beach stairways are only open for people who are going to or from the beaches (working out or jogging on them isn’t allowed). Wearing a face mask while using the stairways is mandatory.

2. Parks

As of this writing, all Encinitas parks are open to the public. That being said, visitors are required to practice social distancing and wear face masks if within 6 feet of strangers. Gatherings aren’t allowed.

3. Trails

All the trails in Encinitas are currently open. People who are using them are advised to practice social distancing and wear face masks when around strangers.

4. Restaurants and wineries

Encinitas is currently under the Purple Tier of COVID-19 restrictions. This means that, while restaurants can still serve customers, only outdoor dining or take-out is allowed. Indoor dining isn’t permitted.

5. Shopping malls

Indoor shopping is allowed, but the capacity is maxed out at 25%. Furthermore, common areas and food courts have been temporarily closed to reduce the risk of infection. As in most indoor areas, visitors are required to wear facial coverings and practice social distancing.

6. Other establishments

Museums, aquariums, zoos, movie theaters, places of worship, family entertainment centers (mini golf, kart racing, batting cages, etc.), gyms, cardrooms, and cultural ceremonies are currently open for outdoor operations only.

Like malls, grocery stores are open for operation but at a limited capacity (50%).
